 OUR PHILOSOPHY
We believe above all else that passion for building is transcendent. Technical knowledge can be developed with experience, but creative ability is contingent on having sincere enthusiasm for each and every project. While we place strong emphasis on superior quality, attentive service, competitive cost and aggressive scheduling, our key to success is in creative problem solving and ingenuity. Moreover, success for MBC is measured not only by the achievements of the past, but also in the understanding that even with two decades in the industry, progress is an ongoing concept. Our company is built by the strength of repeat customers, and we know this is a testament to our efforts in providing sound management skills by always promoting communication.
 CORPORATE HISTORY
Our story begins in 1988, when a younger Paul McDonald founded McDonald Bros Construction, soon to be joined by his brother Patrick. Inspired by their family’s rich construction history, the early years building custom residential homes created a foundation of attention to detail and customer service. Joined in 1993 by Gerry McDonald, the company took a new direction to concentrate on non-residential projects, and the base of experience quickly increased. What started out as two brothers with a passion for building quickly grew into an established construction firm servicing the Ottawa region.
With a renewed focus on creating a portfolio of Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) projects, our contacts in the Eastern Ontario market began to flourish. Known for extensive work with medical facilities, school additions, and complex renovations, our identity as a reliable and professional contractor developed. We learned early on that the most effective way to grow our business was to secure lasting relationships with our clients, and build each project with a mind to returning for the next phase or addition.
Our operation has since diversified and we continue to take on new and exciting projects. Our experience in large-scale new construction has increased significantly, and our aptitudes with medical laboratories and school construction continue to develop. If your children attend an elementary school in the Ottawa region built within the last 5 years, there is a good chance we had a hand in putting it there.
Our biggest single focus in recent times has been the development of sport and recreation facilities. As a company, we believe that buildings which unite communities through the catalyst of sport are a worthy pursuit, and we have devoted significant time to their development. With a particular interest in the Design-Build approach inviting equal participation from the broadest range of professionals, we have built facilities for universities, municipalities, and private groups across Ontario, and most recently across Canada. We have built a division of our company on the basis of this solution, and named it Building Communities. You can learn more about it in the Solutions section.
With a quick look back over our two decade history, you can now share in our excitement for looking ahead. With a healthy mix of lump sum tendering, construction management, and design-build experiences, we infuse the same philosophy into any situation. As out story continues to unfold, we will continue to remember where we came from.
 COMPANY PROFILE
The strength and balance we have achieved in office support and field workers gives us the ability to respond quickly and efficiently to make sure all projects run smoothly. Our team exceeds 40 full-time employees, divided between office staff located at our corporate office in Ottawa, and field staff located at a variety of construction sites. Our range of expertise gives us particular advantages in complex projects involving multiple trades and competent management, but we will also undertake smaller renovation and fit-up projects as the need arises. Generally, we work best in environments requiring a full-time superintendent with a requirement to coordinate the full range of construction divisions.
One of our main competitive advantages lies in our wealth of personnel talent. We have several Project Managers and Site Superintendents with experience in specific types of construction, and will take care in consulting with each client to determine the best fit of personalities and expertise with each project.
MBC is a member of the Canadian Construction Association, Ottawa Construction Association, and the General Contractor’s Association of Ottawa, and is an active member of the OCA’s Safety Group. We are an entirely Canadian-owned corporation.
